Moving Water Workshop at Boone Creek Outdoors

Join Photo ShareShops for the Boone Creek Moving Water Photography Workshop!   It kicks off May 5th at Boone Creek Outdoors, home of the Canopy Zipline Tour and of Boone Creek, one of the most scenic creeks flowing into the Kentucky River.  This photography workshop is designed for all levels of photographer and spans from Saturday morning to mid-afternoon.  You will learn the fundamentals of slow shutter speed, polarizing filters, neutral density filters, basic composition and working with variable light.    Keep in mind the wildflowers will be up so prepare to get down!

The Schedule:

Please arrive on Saturday morning at Boone Creek Outdoors by 8:30.  The road down the the ShareShop location is steep so you and your gear are taken down by 4 wheel drive. The program starts at 9:00 with a brief classroom program in the comfortable living area of the Boone Creek Outdoors lodge or on the creek bank.   Then, on to Boone Creek.

After the shoot we’ll go out for lunch (not included) at Proud Mary’s BBQ and share a few of the shots we took.

The Facility:

Boone Creek Shooting Moving Water is held at, of course, Boone Creek Outdoors.  This lodge has full facilities including kitchen, dining area, living room with big screen TV (where we will review our images) deck with grill, hot tub… etc.  It overlooks Boone Creek.   There is also an area down by the creek we can setup and do the hands on work to really learn great technique.

Who is best suited for this ShareShop:

This ShareShop is designed for all levels of photographers.  The program is for folks using a DSLR or mirrorless interchangeable lens camera system.  What we cover will not be of great value to Smartphone or Point and Shoot camera users.

We also suggest this ShareShop for people that are open to sharing and working well with others.   Overbearing, know-it-all, and arrogant folks do not work well within the framework of our “ShareShop” concept.   Sharing our experience, artistic visions, experimental successes and failures, and good times are key to everyone that participates.   Please read and understand the underlying philosophies of Photo ShareShops.

The facilitators:

This Photo ShareShop is facilitated by Parham P Baker and others depending on the participation.  Sharing knowledge among all of us is the goal of Photo ShareShops.

What you need to bring:

Of course, your camera and any lenses you may have
A tripod (pretty important)
A polarizing filter and a neutral density filter if you have them!!!
knee high waterproof boots, waders or “Aqua Socks” (we may… will do some wading, I’ll have hip boots)
A towel
Insect repellent
A sling chair would be nice
A great spirit of Sharing experience and inspiration!

What is covered in this ShareShop:

-How to “blur” moving water
-How to take glare off of water
-How to get great focus
-Hands on depth of field
-Shooting in bright sunlight (we hope!)
Weather:

If we have had heavy rain just prior to the ShareShop it is likely the road to the lodge may be impassable, in which case we will reschedule.   There are no refunds, but amounts paid can be applied to any Photo ShareShop.  If we are expecting only light rains and the road is good, the ShareShop will be held.

Cautions for this ShareShop:

As anytime you do outdoors activities, there are the hazards of bug bites and stings, snakes (including venomous) bites, and other normal forest and outdoor hazards.  Even the rather steep and muddy road down to the lodge is a bit hazardous in certain weather conditions.  We will likely be wading in a creek, and that poses the hazard both to you as a participant and to gear that may fall in the creek.  Please read and understand the liability release for these.   This is a required disclaimer for our insurance company and you should understand the hazards of outdoor photography and taking images along or in a creek.

How to reserve your space!

The workshop cost is $55.00.     When you make your reservation you will receive an email with your login to this system and further instructions.
